Recently, we shared with you a recipe Disney had released for a “frozen pineapple treat.” Of course they expect us to believe that this is the famous Dole Whip. 😉

Dole Whip at Typhoon Lagoon

It should come as no surprise that our readers LOVE Dole Whip. It won the ultimate Snack Throwdown, after all! But we couldn’t help but notice that something was a bit…off when we looked at Disney’s recipe. So we decided to make sure you had an AUTHENTIC recipe…as well as another totally vegan option…and cover all our “DIY Dole Whip” bases!

Did you know that Dole Whip served in the parks is actually vegan AND gluten-free? The recipe Disney recently shared — using ice cream — isn’t vegan at all. And it isn’t what’s served in the parks.

Mickey and Minnie Ice Cream Cups

So we thought we would share two other step-by-step ways you can make Dole Whip at home (you want ALL your options, right?). We have the ingredients and tools you’ll need to whip up your very own “frozen pineapple treat” in a jiffy!

One of these recipes is authentic and will get you exactly what’s served in the parks. The other recipe is much easier, and still vegan, but isn’t what’s served in the parks.

Please note that while we found these ingredients at the locations below, the current availability of some of these products may vary depending on where you live and when you’re reading this!

Method #1: Roll Up Your Sleeves (But Only a Little)

Ingredients

This first method has a few ingredients and tools involved, but the end result is delicious! Now this is the easy-but-not-authentic-but-still-vegan option. It’s basically pineapple flavored banana soft serve. But it IS vegan so if you’re looking to get closer to Dole Whip than the recipe Disney shared, look no further!

  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 banana
  • 2.5 tsp confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk

Directions

  • Separate 1 cup of pineapple juice into ice cube trays and freeze
  • Freeze 1 banana, sliced
  • Combine frozen pineapple juice, banana, and 2 1/2 teaspoons confectioner’s sugar in a blender.
  • Cover and blend until smooth, gradually adding in your coconut milk and scrape down the sides if necessary.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

To start, you’ll need one cup of pineapple juice, poured into ice cube trays and frozen. You will also want to slice and freeze one banana (we put ours in a ziptop baggie).

Dump your frozen goodies in a blender and add2 1/2 teaspoons of confectioner’s sugar! We mentioned this was a frozen SWEET treat, and this is where the real sweetness comes in! If your pantry is currently running low on confectioner’s sugar, we got you covered:

Finally, for the liquid, the recipe calls for 1/4 to 1/2 cup coconut milk, depending on how thick you want your Dole Whip to turn out!

Blend this up and in seconds you should have a soft-serve sweet treat not TOO unlike the real thing! Except it’ll taste mostly like banana. 🙂

Tools

Method #2: “Set It and Forget It”

Ingredients

This is the REAL DEAL, folks. It doesn’t get more authentic than REAL Dole Whip mix. The main ingredient you’ll need for this method of creating Dole Whip is provided by Dole themselves! They actually sell pineapple soft serve mix online. Note that these are larger bags, so be prepared to make LOTS of Dole Whip (which we totally endorse). The only other ingredient you’ll need is cold tap water, and that’s it! This is exactly what happens backstage at your favorite Disney Dole Whip location.

Follow the instructions on the bag and you’ll be on your way to pineapple paradise in no time!

This method of making your very own Dole Whip requires very little effort, but requires more unique kitchen equipment. For this method, you’ll need an ice cream maker. You can pick one of them up for less than $100 (and then imagine all the ice cream you can make at home once you have it!).
