Gabriel Raymundo Adame, formally licensed contractor and owner of Adame Construction, has been arrested. Adame was arrested after a Nevada State Contractors Board disciplinary hearing on June 26, and is now being charged with five felony charges related to fraudulent construction activities. After thoroughly investigating the complaints filed against Adame, his unlawful practices were uncovered. He had been charging senior homeowners significant down payments for home remodel projects prior to any work being performed. We remind anyone thinking of hiring a contractor to:- Always hire a licensed contractor and verify their license number.- Obtain at least three bids.- Remember that down payments are required by law to be no more than 10% of the total project cost or $1,000; whichever is less.- Never pay with cash.- Obtain a written contract. - Keep a record of all payment receipts and save all paperwork for at least four years.- Don't make a final payment until satisfied with the job.
