READ: Break-in at Ottawa Valley restaurant targeted aquarium of tropical fish, not its cash, owner says

Lily Dan of the Beachburg Restaurant said the Chinese-Canadian restaurant just south of Pembroke had a well-stocked aquarium that seemed to be the target of the early morning break-in on April 11, along with a small amount of cash.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. It’s crazy … They target the fish, it’s not about the money,” Dan said. She added that other valuables at the restaurant, such as its stock of beer, were untouched.

“After a boatload of support from the public, officers along with the assistance of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) were able to ‘reel’ in and arrest the accused,” the OPP release read. “The accused was caught and released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 3.”

OPP also said “the wave of support from the public” about the case was nothing short of “fintastic.”
