Sea bass fishing on sight (2024)

Polarizing glasses strongly recommended

This technique is mainly used in estuaries, but can also be used in harbours. We are faced with wary fish posted in very little water, eating shrimps, crabs and fish. It's not uncommon to come across specimens of over 70 cm in these conditions. A sudden movement, a lure that lands too noisily or too close to your target, and you're sure to fail. It's a bit of a game of who'll see who first. But if it's you who sees it, be good, because there's often only one chance.

Matching blanks

Blank resonance is not the main feature we're looking for, as it gives us the visual power we need in our fishing environment. Above all, we're looking for Blanks with the ability to cast weightless or lightly leaded lures with great precision. Always with discretion in mind, casts should be made with a minimalist gesture, using the tip of the blank to propel the lure. A fine tip or a soft tip will be necessary. The power reserve must also be there. Given that we fish in very little water, the fish will attack your lure violently and will quickly seek out water depth or a nearby Obstacle to break your line. A substantial reserve will guarantee a controlled fight. Blank length should not be overlooked. A blank that is too long will not be suitable for underhand casting. A blank too short will be a handicap when fighting away from the edge. Sizes from 7.2 to 7.3 feet are perfectly suited to this type of fishing.

  1. Phenix PHX-S723M 2m18, 3-15g: A supple tip, good resonance and a good reserve of power. This Blank has what it takes for this programme and has already proved its worth on the barges.
  2. Rodbuilders' Republic PPS 73 ML Blank : 2m21, 5-17g. This blank has a playful tip, a fast action, plenty of reserve power and incredible value for money. It's perfect for Sea bass fishing with light-weight 4' soft lures.
  3. NFC SJ 732 X-Ray 2m21, 5-15gr : The action of NFC blanks needs no introduction, and in view of the feedback on this blank, this 732 fits in perfectly with the top 3 blanks we recommend.

Our recommended handles

Although it's often said that casting is more precise, in this case you need to cast very light lures with a fairly dry rod movement. Spinning is much more appropriate in these conditions. Short handles are preferred to facilitate underarm casting. Being on light Blanks, split grip assemblies are more suitable. Please let us know the desired length between butt and reel foot so that we can adjust the rings. You can also ask us to change the color of the handle kit's bushings (while stocks last).

Compatible guides

We offer you3 Fuji Guide packsof different finishes, corresponding to different budgets and frequencies of use. The first segment of the range is occupied by theAlconite ceramic Guide and Inox frame, with excellent value for money, suitable for occasional use. The frame of these Guides is made of Inox with an anti-corrosion coating. The Alconite ceramic provides good glide and a high heat dissipation rate for the braid, but take care not to spool dry fly braid onto these guides. The second level of the range is occupied by Guide with Inox and SIC ceramic frameworks. In this Guide range, the frame is still made of coated stainless steel, but the ceramic is made of Fuji SIC, which offers better glide and greater resistance. Finally, the top-of-the-range Fuji range is represented by Guide rings in Titanium-Torzite. The Titanium frame is much lighter and, above all, totally insensitive to corrosion. The ceramic is made of Torzite, another Fuji proprietary material that enables the braid to glide perfectly over the ceramic. This ultra-high-performance ceramic requires less material, enabling the use of smaller tunnel guides. Less weight = greater sensitivity and performance.
