Walmart testing new, larger Neighborhood Market layouts at two locations (2024)

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Walmart has opened two new Neighborhood Market locations testing a new and larger layout, the company announced on Tuesday.

The stores, located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia, have a 57,000-square-foot floor plan, around 17,000 square feet bigger than the typical Neighborhood Market.

Walmart said with the larger layout, they can offer a broader assortment of items in the store and have wider aisles. The retail giant said the biggest difference will be in the store’s “Fresh” department, which includes the bakery, produces, meat and dairy sections.

Here are some other features Walmart said the new stores have:

An expanded deli service with more hot food options
More space for pickup and delivery orders
A Health Services Room added to pharmacies to provide customers with consultations and vaccines
A Mother’s Room for nursing moms

The Bentonville-based retailer said in January these two stores would be the first of fourteen the company plans to open or begin construction on in 2024, along with converting one of its smaller locations into a Supercenter. Walmart said they plan to open 150 new stores over the next five years.

A company spokeswoman told the Associated Press that Walmart hadn’t opened a new store since November 2021.

Walmart also said they plan to remodel around 650 stores in 47 states and Puerto Rico over the following year.
