4Cs of San Mateo County understands that language justice is critical for our communities to access much-needed services, programs and have a voice in public policy.
Expanding language access has been a focal point of our work at 4Cs. Here is what we’re doing to expand access, and where we are headed.

4Cs has long been providing services in English and Spanish. We have been working intently to expand access to other languages and our first priority has been enhancing our Chinese capability. We will be adding other language capacity as funding and opportunity allow. Several of those efforts are already underway.
4Cs is working towards making our services, documents, and staff accessible to the community in all languages. Historically, we’ve focused primarily on English and Spanish. More recently, we have made Chinese a priority. We will continue building our language capacity until true equity is realized.
- All social media content is now posted in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Our Annual Report is also printed and digitally available in all three languages.
- Our web-site is available in both English and Spanish, and will soon be available in Chinese (simplified) as well.
- A new translation tool will soon be installed that can machine translate the website into multiple other languages. Although only English, Spanish, and Chinese will have human-verified translations initially, we hope that this will be a helpful next step in website accessibility.
- We have an on-demand third-party service, Language Line, so that we can speak with people in virtually any language via live translation.
- We will soon be contracting with a firm that will translate all our written materials as needed. This includes English, Spanish, Chinese, and any other languages needed by our clients.
- We have provided services in other languages where possible, such as having a FCCHEN informational presentation and focus groups in English, Spanish, and Mandarin. We’ve held a group registration session for child care subsidies in Portuguese (alongside our ongoing English and Spanish sessions). We’ll continue to look for opportunities to meet our community’s broad linguistic needs.
Our work to build a more inclusive community is an ongoing effort, and we want to continue making our resources easy to access for our entire community.

Las 4Cs del Condado de San Mateo entienden que la justicia lingüística es fundamental para que nuestras comunidades accedan a servicios y programas muy necesarios y tengan voz en las políticas públicas.
La expansión del acceso lingüístico ha sido un punto focal de nuestro trabajo en las 4Cs. Esto es lo que estamos haciendo para expandir el acceso, y hacia dónde nos dirigimos.

Las 4Cs llevan mucho tiempo proveyendo servicios en inglés y español. Hemos estado trabajando intensamente para ampliar el acceso a otros idiomas y nuestra primera prioridad ha sido mejorar nuestra capacidad de chino. Estaremos añadiendo otras capacidades lingüísticas a medida que la financiación y la oportunidad lo permita. Varios de esos esfuerzos ya están en marcha.
