By TOM MUKPHY Starr Writer The Third District of the Ameri can Advertising Federation kicked off its annual spring con ference in Rocky Mount Friday The conference, which continues today, encompasses all of the advertising clubs in North and South Carolina and Virginia. Comprising local advertising federations and A 1)2 clubs, the AAF is divided into 15 districts nationally. It is anticipated that 150 to 200 advertising professionals from all major markets in the three states of the Third District AAF will be in attendance. This year, the National Student Advertising Competition for the district was held Friday at the Sheraton Gateway Centre Colleges and universities participating included Appalachian State University, College of Charleston, William Mary, James Madison University, Liberty University State University, Old Domin ion University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of South Carolina, US(7(oastal Carolina, the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University Participating students expressed excitement about the event, emphasizing that it is a learning experience leading to careers in advertising Competitors presented various details of a VISA marketing ad campaign, with individual win ners afforded opportunities to continue on as far as national competition in Portland.
